Geek in the Pink

Okay-- I'm cheating- I obviously didn't take the first picture...but thats okay. My brother, Connor, and I went to Cain's last night to see the re-scheduled Jason Mraz concert. We've been fans since his first cd & were pissed when he had to stop in the middle of the show in April due to "throat problems" But, none the less, he came back & honored our tickets from April & played a terrific show.

Please forgive my camera phone pictures!! Above is the Cain's sign...The Jason photos are kinda funny- it makes Cain's look like some kind of huge arena-- he looks soooo tiny! We were actually quite close to the stage- but you can't tell from the pics... Connor looking not too thrilled below...

LOL @ the tiny Mraz pics...Jason played around 2 hours--about 20 songs...he's so much better live than he is on his cd's...Connor & I saw quite a few people we knew there...I saw Nick Brunner, who I love!! I hadn't seen him for almost a year--we exchanged numbers & he will have to come over to our house!! Paul & Brooke, I saw your sister & sister-in-law (the same person, of course)- didn't say hi- it was too loud & crowded, but she was there...
Highlights of the show: the music (duh), Mraz's amazing robot dance, the bags for his merchandise were pink & said "big pink bag"- an obvious take-off from Bloomingdale's "big brown bags" & getting to spend time w/ my great little brother

Lowlights of the show: the huge number of people wearing pink shirts (Mraz has a song called "Geek in the Pink") and the number of couples slow dancing--gimme a break people!!

I <3 the Konfabulator!!

This thing is sooo cool!!

The Cure for Mac Envy

I'm bound to dork out from time to time and this is definately one of those times. There are over a thousand of these babies to choose from. You too can cure your Mac envy by getting Konfabulator!!!

Mountain Climbing in the Honda

So, we decided to go to Pike's Peak on Sunday which ended up being my favorite part of the trip. Angela, on the other hand, vows never to set foot on the mountain again. Why? Well, there are no guard rails the entire way up and most of the road above 9,000 feet is unpaved. During some of the tight turns, she had a death grip on the seat handle and was screaming "They're sick bastards for letting people do this..."

We couldn't quite get to the summit due to an accident. One of the police officers who was present informed us they had a "Thelma and Louise" situation at the summit. Because of this, they were blocking the last few hundred feet of the ascent. We got to about 13,500 feet which is well above the timberline. At this height, Angela wouldn't even get out of the car so I took pictures of the scenery. It was like another planet up there.

One interesting thing about being at that height is that you are only breathing about half the oxygen you are at sea level. I could feel my brain working a bit slower and I felt a very distinct pressure on my head. Angela was a little bit worse off. She was confused and very emotional which are both signs of Hypoxia. Needless to say, we didn't stay near the summit for long but I'm dying to go back the next time we're in Colorado.

Anyhow, here are some pictures that were taken during our trek up the mountain.

We got to see the Aspen trees as we begin our ascent up the mountain.

Here's Angela at 9,000 feet as the effects of Hypoxia are beginning to take grip (notice the giddy smiling).

Above the timberline and in the Alpine Life Zone.

Ascending into the Artic Tundra Habitat... Mmm, that's good Lichen.

Alright, now it's beginning to look like we landed on Mars.

Should.... Have sent... A poet...

Rocky Mountain High...

Yay we're home!! We had the best time in Colorado, but its nice to be back. Mike & I took a ton of pictures, so get ready!! I'm gonna post a few tonight & the rest later this week. The one above was taken at a beautiful lake at the base of Pike's Peak. How gorgeous is that!?! Mike is gonna blog about Pike's Peak (he enjoyed it a lot more than I did!!) I will say that 2 people died on the mountain while we were there!!It was terrible, I'm sure he'll talk more about that tomorrow...
These were taken in the Rocky Mountain National Park-- the aspen trees were changing and it was amazing!!! We drove through the park & had such a great time.

The Rocky Mountain National Park is located in Estes Park-- which was my favorite city in Colorado. It was adorable- great shopping, scenary & people. They happened to be having an autumn festival called "The Autumn Gold Festival-Bands, Beers & Brats"-- it was so fun!! Mike & I both love bands, beer & brats, so a good time was had by all! Seriously, if you've never seen Estes Park, you're missing out... definately a good site for a honeymoon (hint, hint). We both decided we want to live there some day!!

More Beautiful mountains!!!

Here's one of many "up-close taking the picture ourselves" pics. I promise there are some amazing mountains behind us!! We both find it slightly creepy that we look like relatives in this picture--our skin color is exacly the same! weird...

So, like I said- we will be doing a lot of blogging this week about our trip-- I havent even told you about the wedding or about seeing my good friend Leah yet!! Its good to be back, hope everyone is doing well!!

Denver, Here We Come...

Mike and I leave for Colorado tomorrow, so I probably won't update until Sunday or Monday (unless I get bored & have internet access!) I'm super excited to see Denver- I've never been there before. We're going for Mike's father's wedding- Catholic weddings are usually long- but the receptions are usually fun! I'm also really excited to see my friend Leah!! We went to college together and worked at Camp Lenox together for a couple of summers. Its too bad Bree can't be there with us!! Mike promised to take me to some touristy type things (Pike's Peak, The Royal Gorge etc) so I'm looking forward to that, all except for the fact that I'm deathly afraid of heights! And, when I get home, my brother & I are going to the Jason Mraz concert @ Cain's on the 27th! Hope everyone has a great week/weekend while we're gone!!!

Emmy Stuff....

So, I watched the Emmys last night... I usually love Ellen- but she was not so funny last night- she kinda bombed. Arrested Development was robbed!! The Emmy Idol thing was horrid- I don't ever want to hear Donald Trump sing again!! Below are some of my favorites:

I <3 Jon Stewart!!

Yay for Jon Stewart!! He was so deserving of his two wins. He is quite possibly the funniest man on the planet! How cute is he?!?

Yay for Lost!!!

Mike & I were so excited for Lost- one of our favorite shows!! The new season starts this week!!

I <3 James Spader

I don't watch Boston Legal- but I love him!

Senator Kennedy Offers Help in New Orleans...

Shocked by the widespread suffering of those displaced from their homes by the flooding in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina, Senator Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.) offered to plug one of the holes in the Lake Pontchartrain levee with his own ample body.
"The Bush Administration has failed to stem the tide of this cataclysm," said Kennedy. "I have had some experience with aquatic mishaps. This experience will bolster me in this hour of desperation as I plug one of the leaks myself."

Kennedy has arranged to have the Air Force transport him by helicopter and lower him into the easternmost breach in the levee. The hope is that the senator's doughy frame will be pliable enough to conform to the hole's dimensions and halt or, at least slow, the flow of water from the lake into the city.
President Bush praised Senator Kennedy's decision. "I think it's mighty big of him to offer so much for the good of the country," said Bush. "There aren't many who could fill such a large role in this disaster."

hahahaha!

I Want a Puppy!!!

I have Mike convinced that we need a puppy. This is the breed that I want badly- a wire hair fox terrier. My parents have one, named Jack & he's about the coolest dog ever (other than you, Sketch!) They are smart, very trainable, adorable & I must have one!!! Other than puppy talk, Mike & I had a great weekend. Friday was a good time @ P's parent's house for the b-day party. It was great to get to hang out with everyone! Saturday was a lazy day- didnt do much. Sunday, Mike grilled steaks for the first time- they were amazing!! I also made the fruit dip for dessert that Kat & Brooke & I couldn't keep our hands off of from the birthday party!! (it was so yummy & easy!) We also watched Envy on HBO-- how the hell could three of my favorite people (Jack Black, Ben Stiller & Christopher Walken) make such a horrid movie?? They had no chemistry & it sucked royally. Oh, and can I just say that I am obsessed with our new DVR- its the coolest- I can search for tv shows, movies etc & record them to watch whenever I want! I found My So-Called Life (my favorite show from my teen years) on at 4 in the morning on some channel-- so now I record it every day!!

Angi-Ken Anoyme

Blah-Blah-Blah Blog Blah-Blah. That's what I've been hearing from Angela lately. Usually, I don't listen to much of what she says but she's been rather persistent with trying to get me to make a blog entry.

Here's the problem. I only blog when I'm alone. Why? Well, as I'm typing this very sentence she's eyeing me. Judging me. Giving me the Indian stare. And I just can't blog under these conditions. Call me crazy but when I write I need my privacy.

But, as fate would have it, Angela can be rather persuasive so here I am. She used her Jedi Mind Nag on me. The force is stong with her. I have a feeling that after reading this she'll have a chance to practice her Jedi Stapler Throwing skills which I'll of course counter with my Ninja Evasion and Retreat skills. Fate shall decide the victor.

No More Laundromats!!

So, we are officially grown-ups!! Mike & I are the proud owners of a "top-of-the-line" frigidaire stackable washer/dryer!! Yay!! No more scary laundromat trips!! No more looking for quarters!! The downside is that I suspect most of the laundry will be my responsibility & since Mike has apparently went on strike from our blog, he cannot defend himself! hehehe... We've both purchased big ticket items before (our cars) but this purchase made us into real adults because we chose the washer/dryer over the amazing Sony LCD HDTV that we also found at Best Buy. Oh yeah, the best thing about our new washer/dryer....I get to use my Downy ball thingy ( which is the coolest little invention ever)!! The washers at the laundromat weren't top load washer so I couldn't use the ball thingy. Now I can. Simple minds, simple pleasures!

What a Weekend!!

We had such a crazy weekend! Mike went golfing Saturday afternoon with the guys for J&A's wedding, and came home delirious with heat stroke. Sunday evening we went to the wedding & Sunday night- the reception. Mike & I danced together for the first time! Awwwww, how cute!!! (We were headed to the dance floor for a Sinatra song, but the 70 year old DJ changed his mind after the first verse!) So, we settled on Dave Matthew's, "Crash". But, Monday was my favorite part of Labor Day weekend, we had our first BBQ at the new house. Miah, P&B, Ken & Bahara (sp?) & my little brother came over. Mike experimented with his new grill & we all had a nice time!! Hopefully that was just the first of many BBQ's/dinner parties at the new place!!

Hurricane Katrina

My dad is in the Air Force & he goes to the air base in Mississippi all the time. The guys he worked with at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi emailed him these pictures of the damage. The cars in the first picture belong to the soldiers that live & work on the base. The second picture is of an airplane hanger, which has been destroyed by the storm. I know most of the coverage is of New Orleans, but the towns along the Mississippi coast are in bad shape too. I feel so bad for the people who lost their homes, businesses and loved ones. What is disgusting to me are the people looting, its one thing to steal food & water from a Wal-Mart, but some of those people are running out with DVD players!! CNN just reported that last night 3 people were killed at the New Orleans Convention Center by gangs, and several women were raped. What the hell!?! The pictures of the elderly, the babies and the others stranded make me want to cry, but the pieces of shit that are taking advantage of them should be shot on site...okay sorry for the rant.
