My attempts at window "mistreatments"

I have to give credit to this fabulous blog post: Nesting Place: Window Mistreatments for giving me the inspiration to attempt a few valances.

I've lived with cheapo plastic blinds in this house for a year now. Since we're renting, I wasn't about to spend time & money on actual curtain rods and expensive drapes. I love window treatments, I dream of beautiful full length dupioni silk drapes lol...I'll save that for whatever house we'll be buying in the near future!

First off, the kitchen:

It may look crooked in the photo, but I assure you it's not!

A close up shot of the fabric: a classic black & white French toile

The dining room:

I used a deep red pinched taffeta.

And finally the living room:

(little secret: this one is just a tablecloth folded in half!)

AWESOME JOB! You did great!

Love the toile! LOVE LOVE LOVE the red fabric, did I mention that i loved it?

Living room-very nice!!! If you feel like they are blocking too much light from the window, you could even raise them almost to the ceiling! It's amazing how it makes the room and window look bigger! All mine are hung way above the top of the window and I just cover the top of the window with the bottom of the fabric! I like lots of light! There's no rule that says you have to hang them right at the top of the window! I love no rules!

Great JOB!

Did you cut up an old prom dress for the red treatment? It's so awesome. And you found good toile. More awesome.

Every time I see that fabric in the store--that pinched one, I rub it, lay my face up against it and basically molest it until a worker comes and looks at me funny! It looks so nice when hung!

Ooooh, LOVE that black/white toile. So sweet and pretty!

Have you thought about hanging the living room ones up a touch higher? It would make your window appear HUGE!
