mmmmmmm hummus!

let me first say that I am by no means an expert on hummus. I make it weekly, and I make it to suit our taste. Here is our basic version:

Ingredients
  • chickpeas/garbanzo beans
  • a couple of cloves of garlic
  • olive oil- just enough to keep it moist
  • a lemon
  • tahini- 2 tablespoons

add the chickpeas into your food processor, blend for a few minutes. I slowly drizzle olive oil and add lemon juice into the chickpeas.

I then add the garlic and the tahini

and blend, blend, blend!

that's it! It is so versatile, sometimes I'll add roasted red peppers & sometimes black beans. The best part- it's super inexpensive.

We use it on everything! Veggies, pretzels, sandwiches etc. Here is a look at my lunch today- YUM!

Yum, yum! That's actually very close to how we make hummus, too! But we really like to add some garlic-stuffed green olives and pulse those in at the very end. I'm sure that ups the sodium content of the hummu (not to mention the fat content), but it's SO delish!

delish! we've been eating tons of black bean lime hummus and thought I'd share in case you want to try it (http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/member/views/BLACK-BEAN-LIME-HUMMUS-WITH-BANANA-CHIPS-1258828) pretty similar of course, but this has cilantro too (we're cilantro junkies). and obviously you can use whatever kind of chips you want.

thanks for that...I love hummus and I am getting tired of spending so much money on it all of the time. I believe that I will try this over the weekend.
