OKC Trip

Just got back from a little trip with my mom. We headed to OKC for the American Idol concert- it's a tradition for us, this was our 6th season to go. You guys might not like AI, but it's our thing. The hotel was fabulous- The Colcord in OKC. And the concert was fantastic for the most part. Looking forward to Labor Day, not looking forward to my dad heading to Iraq next week.

Wallpaper is still the devil

If you're thinking of putting wallpaper in your house- DON'T! I finally finished removing it in the dining room over the weekend and omfg, what a pain in the ass! It feels so good to have it finished. I had to prime the wall, then texturize it, the prime it again, then finally paint. I used Restoration Hardware's Spanish Moss & it's exactly the color I wanted- it's perfect! As soon as I have some good natural light I'll post some pictures.

Now, off to the kitchen to remove more effing wallpaper.

update: a picture! minus the natural light- it's too overcast today.

School Days Pt. 2- MIKE!

I couldn't leave Mike out...My dear husband has not seen these... lets see how long until he makes me take them down!! lmao Hilarious.

I think we would have made a hawt couple in the 50's!

School Days

My friend Beth introduced me to www.yearbookyourself.com. You upload a picture of yourself and it shows you how you might have looked in the past decades. omfg, it's hilarious!!

Here are a few of my favorites:

1950-

1954- Quite possible the most nerdy I've ever looked!

1966- omfg, that hair!

1968- sexy hair!

1984- the 80's were not a good time

1990- I actually had this hairdo at some point in the late 80's/early 90's

lmaooooo!

Mike's Office

If you guys know Mike, you know a few things about him.
1. He's a nerd. :) Which means he owns tons of computer stuff.
2. He's messy!
3. He's a packrat.

So, knowing those 3 things I am really proud of the progress he's made on his new office! In our old house his office was situated at the very back of the house- far enough away that it could look like a total pit and no one knew about it. In our new house the office is right off the living room through a set of double doors. This means it has to look decent at all times!

Check out our progress so far:

the view from the living room- please look over the boxes and clutter

this area will be set up as a bar- had to have a nice place for the wine fridge :) I did try to talk him out of the posters, but he was set on using them.

still have things to hang:

Pinkie says hi!

So, progress has been made and we still have tons to do. But I'm so proud of him for his decluttering and his hard work.

My New Favorite Things

Mirror Take Two

So according to Coto De Texas (a fantastic design & decor blog) mirrors should never be hung horizontally. If you're familiar with her blog, you'll know that my measly $44 mirror is not what she had in mind when she wrote that, but it got me to thinking... should I try it vertically? So I tried it, and I like it. Thoughts?

Shopping Success!

YAY! I said in my last post that we were heading to Hobby Lobby to find a mirror for our mantel, we went and found a great deal yesterday. They were having their 50% off sale (just like they do every other week) and we found one we loved... and it was 66% off!

It's totally different than what I had pictured, here are some pics: (ooh and it's dirty! I just cleaned it- you know, after I took the pictures)

It's just leaning on the mantel right now and I haven't decided if we'll hang it or leave it leaning. Total cost- $44!

Mirror Shopping

Mike & I are on the hunt for a mirror to place over our mantel. Well, let's be honest, I'm on the hunt for a mirror and Mike is humoring me. :) He's actually meeting me at Hobby Lobby today on his lunch break--50% off sales call for drastic measures!! I had one picked out already, but he wasn't crazy about it. Here are some pics I grabbed with my cell phone:

He felt it was a touch too modern, and is probably right. We're both drawn to a more traditional style... so I'm really hoping we can find something we both love.

Here's the space back when we were painting:

Maybe something similar to these?

or maybe a different shape all together:

Hopefully something will jump out at us when we're shopping today!

When are you two going to have kids??

I swear to God people love to ask that question. I know they aren't doing it to piss me off but I'm more than tired of it. Guess what- we just bought a house. We're just now coming up on our 2nd wedding anniversary. There is NO rush! We enjoy our freedom. I love being able to stay up till 3 in the morning playing Wii with Mike. Or being lazy all day long in our pajamas. We want to travel (Japan with a baby? no thanks.), we want to be selfish. We're enjoying our puppy and can't imagine adding something even more demanding to the equation ( you can't crate train a baby! :) ) So to answer the question that everybody seems to be asking: We don't know! Maybe in 5 years or so. We're not even 30 yet. And stop asking. :)

We have tile!!

Both our guest bathroom and master bathroom had carpet when we moved in. Having tile installed was one of our top priorities, and yesterday it happened! First of all, WHO puts carpet in a bathroom? Gross. Secondly, please look past the hideous wallpaper- it will be down next week!
