5 Years!

Today is our fifth wedding anniversary!
Happy anniversary to my favorite person in the whole wide world!
One of my favorite readings from our wedding still brings tears to my eyes:

Union
by Robert Fulghum

You have known each other from the first glance of acquaintance to this point of commitment. At some point, you decided to marry. From that moment of yes to this moment of yes, indeed, you have been making promises and agreements in an informal way. All those conversations that were held riding in a car or over a meal or during long walks - all those sentences that began with “When we’re married” and continued with “I will and you will and we will”- those late night talks that included “someday” and “somehow” and “maybe”- and all those promises that are unspoken matters of the heart. All these common things, and more, are the real process of a wedding. The symbolic vows that you are about to make are a way of saying to one another, “ You know all those things we’ve promised and hoped and dreamed- well, I meant it all, every word.” Look at one another and remember this moment in time. Before this moment you have been many things to one another- acquaintance, friend, companion, lover, dancing partner, and even teacher, for you have learned much from one another in these last few years. Now you shall say a few words that take you across a threshold of life, and things will never quite be the same between you. For after these vows, you shall say to the world, this- is my husband, this- is my wife.

A Painting, Gel Nails, and Robin Hood

this is a post of randoms, forgive me.
I got a gel manicure last week and I love it! It's just a nail polish that is cured under UV light so it lasts a loooong time. Supposedly for 2-3 weeks! I'm on week two and it still looks great. Above is the picture a day after I had it done and below is the 1 week picture. Now, what am I not crazy about? How freaking short the manicurist trimmed my nails! What in the world?? I didn't notice until it was too late. Boo.
Friday, I picked up the painting we had done of Jack Bauer--- I love it!!
Speaking of JB, here he is lounging on top of Mike while we watched movies on Sunday.
And finally, I was appalled to learn that my dear husband has never seen the Disney version of Robin Hood!!
It came out in the early 70's and was one of my favorite Disney movies when i was little. I'm determined to find it on dvd and make him watch it.

Happy Valentine's Day!!

I've always loved Valentine's Day-- when I was a little kid, when I was single and especially now that I'm married. We're going low key this year: Mike volunteered to cook dinner and I made cupcakes for dessert. Amazing vegan cupcakes from a new cookbook. I guarantee you wouldn't be able to tell they were vegan. Insanely good!
our table set, ready for Mike to cook dinner!
I got Mike a few nerdy gifts he's been wanting and I have no idea what he got me--- but he's in his office right  now wrapping it! haha! Hope everyone is having a great Valentine's Day!

more of the same

It's pretty difficult to blog when there is nothing going on... just lots of snow, movie watching, cooking, playing board games etc. Nothing particularly exciting but it's really been a fantastic week. Mike was able to work from home all week, which was such a blessing. The roads have been a total nightmare and I like knowing he's safe here at home... plus I'm selfish, and I'll take all the time with him that I can get! The dogs have been playing outside constantly-- I really have to force Jack Bauer to come in and warm up.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful Sunday! We're supposed to get some more snow tonight and then another huge storm Tuesday/Wednesday.

he makes me laugh

I opened the freezer tonight to get a bowl of ice cream (Soy ice cream!) and noticed the container felt a little bit too light when I picked it up. I opened the lid and found this:
it was empty except for a note from my dear husband. I.Love.Him.

it was bound to happen

The last time I was sick-- like go-to-the-dr.-give-me-drugs-sick-- was the August 2009. That was until this past week! I spent last weekend in Tulsa with my mom (dad was in Hawaii on a business trip) and on the drive back to Arkansas I could tell things weren't right. I woke up Monday morning unbelievably sick. :( The Dr. thought I had the flu but the test came back negative. I was diagnosed with bronchitis (102 temp!) and sent home with lots of meds. I stayed in bed, asleep-- basically until Wednesday.
antibiotics, nose spray, inhaler, some narcotic cough syrup (AMAZING stuff), mucinex etc...
and my fever started to come down! Mike has taken such great care of me, he's an amazing nurse! I'm definitely on the mend, getting better every day. I can't wait to be over this crap.

My Newest Obsession

I.Am.Obsessed.
Mike and I each got a Kindle for Christmas and I cannot believe how much I've been using mine!

It's teeny tiny, so light and the battery lasts forever.

I always thought I'd prefer books-- the smell, the way it feels in your hands... but I'm a convert. I've been reading so much more now that I have the Kindle-- I've finished three books since Christmas! I'm going to attempt to sew a cute cover for mine... I've got my fingers crossed that it doesn't look like a 2nd grader's craft project. ;-)

*edited to add a list of the books I've read*
  1.  Eat, Pray, Love
  2. Decoded
  3. Little Kids, Big City
Currently reading-- Water For Elephants & Cosmopolis!

a Gossip Girl extra and a politician's wife

We needed a new picture for this year's Christmas card so I bribed Mike with some sushi and letting him pick the movie for our date night. If you knew how much Mike hates our little photo shoots, you'd know I got off easy!! So we got ready for date night and got dressed for our Christmas card pic...
What I wanted to wear:

movienight

What Mike wanted to wear:
movienightmike

But since we needed to look "presentable" for our Christmas cards, we wore this:
and looked like a Gossip Girl extra and a politician's wife.
As a side note-- the bag in the first group of pictures is really similar to my anniversary gift this year from Mike:
It's a Betsey Johnson bag from her Betseyville line and I am in love with it!! I realize it's not everyone's style but it is sooo me. I had been lusting after this bag for 4 months. Mike outdid himself this year!

life is good

Mike and I have had lots of fun lately--- just a few pics of our trip to Atlanta-- everything else is on facebook.
I got to meet one of my childhood crushes-- Luke freaking Perry. STILL HOT by the way.
I got to meet and hug up to Nelsan Ellis aka Lafayette from True Blood. (I squealed like a little girl)
spent some time with a vampire and some wolves.
got to dress up a few times and had an amazing vacation.

odds & ends

we went to Tulsa a few weeks go for Trek Expo (oh yes, super nerdy) and got the typical pics-- people in their costumes, actors from various sci-fi movies/tv shows and a few shots of us together.
Here I am with the Ghostbuster's car. The dress I'm wearing is new and I love it--- 50% off at Belk!
I've got a cut and color scheduled next week and I'm really leaning toward this cut & color... eeek, it's quite a change!
and really, no post is complete without Jack Bauer! :-)

good fences make good neighbors!

Please look past the massive amounts of leaves, Ellie taking a bathroom break, the ghetto dog kennel left behind by the previous owners and Mike's Crocs... we have a FENCE!!! Woohoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! For some reason very few houses in our little town have a fence and it drove us crazy. We decided to spend a little bit of Mike's annual bonus on a privacy fence, and it was completed earlier today. The dogs are in heaven and we love the PRIVACY!! No more looking into our creepy neighbor's yard... no more late night walks with JB & Ellie. It's awesome. And I already have big plans for that yard! We already have a pretty cool fire pit, some wooden benches and a nice deck- but I can't wait to plant some flowers and make it a nice little sanctuary. This is my next project-- stay tuned!

I'm married to a 12 year old.

Mike shaved his beard. I prefer him with the beard and he agrees to have one in the fall & winter-- but since it's spring, it came off!
He looks so young!!
P.S.- here's a pic of Mike with his beard:
